John's practice is focused on providing legal and tax advice to entrepreneurs and private corporations.  His practice covers a broad spectrum including mergers and acquisitions, financing arrangements, businesses succession and tax planning.  He also provides independent tax consulting services for other legal and accounting firms.

John is also a commercial arbitrator who has received the designation of Qualified Arbitrator (Q. Arb). Throughout his professional career John has gained extensive hands-on experience advising on the interpretation of complex legislation and legal agreements and he brings this experience to the arbitration of contractual disputes. John is committed to a rigorous yet practical approach to the arbitration process and issuing awards that are clear, comprehensive and well-reasoned.

John has lectured for several professional bodies including the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Tax Foundation and was a sessional instructor in taxation at the Faculty of Law, University of Alberta.  John has written numerous tax focused articles for Canadian Tax Foundation publications.

Prior to joining Greenfields Law, John was a partner in the Calgary office of Gowling WLG.
